This is Home.
My objective in this installation piece is to portray the underlying contributions in Singapore since the post-colonial period to present, its transparent situation regarding Singapore foreign policy and why we are all Singaporean regardless of our place of birth and race. Singapore is after all a port island, a centre for trade in the Southeast Asia that predates 1800s till now.
Home has always been the theme of Singapore nationalistic patriotic slogan thus I want to recreate a home that houses the foreign workers especially those in the building and construction sector in a form of tent for its impermanence in purpose and temporary in built.
There are fine prints in the law governing the pitching of tents in public areas and those who wish to do so has to pitch at only authorized tentage areas like those near the eastern coastal line. In my work, my ultimate aim is highlighting the harsh nature of this temporary shelter for the builders of our Home
